Indigenous Peoples Day is observed in Montana on the second Monday of each October, following a bill signed into law by Governor Greg Gianforte.
In Great Falls, the community gathered to mark the occasion with a four-day event at Great Falls College's Heritage Hall, featuring a free community feed and a fry bread contest.
“Indigenous Day opens that up to a point where, we can understand a lot more about who we are as a people rather than as a segregation title,”
explained Leon Rattler, one of the speakers. The event drew students, families, tribal members, and local leaders, creating a festive atmosphere while highlighting the significance of the day.
