ASTI President's Stance on Exam Fees
A Clare-based former president of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland suggests that high-income households should not be exempt from exam fees.
Exam fees for the Junior and Leaving Cert, which have been waived since 2020, will be reintroduced next year, costing parents €109 and €116 respectively.
- Students taking or repeating the Leaving Cert are exempt from fees if they or their parents hold a medical card.
Geraldine O'Brien, a teacher at St Joseph's Kilkee Community College, proposes an upward sliding scale where families that earn less pay less.
