Meridah Nandudu, a single mom of two, was unemployed and in despair before finding inspiration in coffee beans from her parents' farm in Uganda.
Nandudu, who grew up in the village of Bugibulungu, never thought coffee would play a role in her life. Her parents and grandparents were coffee farmers, but she didn't want to follow in their footsteps.
"Medium roast is my favorite," she says, "It brings out the caramels, the body of the coffee, the chocolate flavors."
Coffee became a critical part of her life story and her work to improve the lives of women in her community. She founded and runs Bayaaya Specialty Coffee, transforming her life and the lives of women in her village.
