Despite being a net exporter of food, South Africa is experiencing increasing food insecurity, with 19,7% of the population affected in 2023.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), approximately 28,9% of the global population suffered from moderate to severe food insecurity in 2024.
