On Tuesday, October 14, some flights at Kelowna and Victoria airports were delayed due to a hacking incident.
The incident occurred between 5 p.m. at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ), where pro-Hamas messages were displayed and heard throughout the airports.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging... It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
A post on the Kelowna Reddit stated that the messaging lasted about two minutes, including phrases like "Free Palestine" and cursing the U.S.
The City of Kelowna reported that the cybersecurity incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
