Unbreakable X-Men features rich emotional storytelling but fails to utilize the freedom of an alternate universe story like "The Age of Revelation" to its full potential.
The newest X-Men event story, "The Age of Revelation", has begun, transporting readers ten years into the future. In this future, Revelation, formerly Doug Ramsey, has taken control of a significant portion of the United States, while a virus devastates the human race.
The X-Men, as the last remaining superheroes, strive to liberate the Revelation territories while safeguarding the rest of the world. Unbreakable X-Men #1 focuses on the Uncanny X-Men team in this dark future, presenting a story with an intriguing build that ultimately falls short of coming together.
Simone doesn’t really use the idea of “The Age of Revelation” to its utmost, and that’s a problem for this issue.
Author's summary: Unbreakable X-Men #1 lacks full utilization of its alternate universe concept.
