Cambridge Residents Prioritize Affordable Housing

According to the 2024 Resident Opinion Survey, almost half of Cantabrigians ranked "affordable housing" as the single most important issue for the city to address.

As a resident of Cambridge, I can attest to the need for affordable housing. My partner and I rent an apartment in a building over 100 years old, but we would love to move to a better maintained building with modern amenities. However, we feel trapped by the lack of budget-friendly options near our friends and businesses.

46% of respondents ranked "affordable housing" as the single most important issue for the city to address.

Additionally, only 6% of respondents gave the city "excellent" marks on achieving "market housing that is affordable." This highlights the need for the city to address the issue of affordable housing.

A proposed housing project at 2072 Massachusetts Ave. may be a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to address the city's affordable housing crisis.

Author's summary: Cambridge residents prioritize affordable housing as the city's top issue.
