Info Session Outlines New FEMA Flood Maps, Insurance Options for Tompkins Co. Residents
Over the summer, FEMA updated its flood zone maps for Tompkins County. An information session was held at the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce in Ithaca for people to learn about the maps and ask questions.
According to Vice President of Bailey Place Insurance, Valarie VanGorder, the session covered various topics, including:
- tenant insurance for landlord property owners
- basement coverage and what is not covered
"In 2003, Congress mandated that FEMA update all the flood maps across the country, and Cortland County was done back in 2010. Why they picked Tompkins County now, over the last few years, to do this, I don’t really know."
