Construction on the new Brooks Bridge westbound deck has begun, with crews placing concrete on the bridge structure as part of the $171-million replacement project on Okaloosa Island.
The concrete will undergo a seven-day "wet cure" hydration process to reach maximum strength and durability. This process involves spraying water lightly over the surface and covering it with a wet, saturated fabric to keep it consistently moist.
The Florida Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.
