Police allay concerns over armed sovereign citizens in Northern Tasmania

Police have downplayed concerns over the potential risk posed by armed so-called sovereign citizens in Northern Tasmania.

It comes after Western Australian Police seized more than 100 guns earlier this month, crediting a review into the gun licences held by people with views consistent with those of sovereign citizens.

Tasmania Police regularly review this information.

Assistant Commissioner Rob Blackwood said Tasmania Police actively monitors individuals who identify as sovereign citizens to maintain community safety.

Tasmania Police does not comment on, or confirm, certain individual policing activities due to operational and investigative reasons,
