A recent survey by the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association found that 85% of respondents felt their reporting was held to a "higher standard of neutrality".
The survey, conducted among approximately 70 journalists of Middle Eastern and North African descent working in American newsrooms, revealed increased scrutiny since October 2023, coinciding with the start of Israel's military campaign in Gaza.
"We put together a survey because, as journalists, we always try to uncover the truth,"said Aymann Ismail, president of AMEJA and staff writer at Slate.
AMEJA published the survey results as the ceasefire took effect, prompting reflection on press coverage of the war.
Author's summary: Journalists face higher standards.
