Hayti District's $44M Development Approved

The Durham city council has approved a $44 million bond for Fayette Place, a mixed-use development in the Hayti district.

The revitalization project will bring over 250 affordable housing units to the historic neighborhood, aiming to restore Durham's historic "Black Wall Street".

"I'm excited about the change that is coming to our neighborhood," said Gail Jones, a long-time resident. "Hayti should be remembered because of its historic value, for Black Wall Street."

The Durham Housing Authority praised the city council's vote.
