Mexican Authorities Suspect Jalisco Cartel in Mayor's Killing

Mexican authorities suspect that Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan, was killed by the Jalisco Cartel, according to a new report.

The mayor was slain in the city center last week. A local leader, Rene Belmonte, also known as Rino, was captured by police in August. He was a close subordinate of the Alvarez Ayala brothers, top leaders in the Jalisco Cartel.

A source said that the gunman, a young man between 17 and 19 years old, was connected to the cartel.

The gunman was killed immediately after the shooting.
