Protection of York Homes after 2000 Floods

The Environment Agency has taken "extensive action" to protect York homes and businesses after the "devastating" floods of 25 years ago.

In November 2000, York experienced some of its worst flooding, with 540 properties flooded and villages cut off after the River Ouse rose to a record 5.4 metres above normal summer levels.

Trapped residents had to be rescued in boats

According to Paul Stockhill, area flood risk manager at the Environment Agency, the floods had "devastating impacts in York".
