Mayor Concerned About Growing Social Needs as Holidays Approach

As the holiday season nears, the Tamuning mayor's office is dealing with a surge in requests for help from families affected by ongoing federal furloughs and widening social needs.

“People are calling because they need help just to come into their house,”

Tamuning Mayor Louise Rivera said during the Tamuning town hall meeting. She highlighted the shortage of personal care attendants, drivers, and in-home helpers, which has created new challenges for elderly, disabled, and isolated residents.

Rivera noted that

“They don’t have anyone to drive them to the bank or the store. We have the money to pay, but no one to come and do the work.”

The mayor's office is working to address these issues as the community's social needs continue to grow.
