Gang Crackdown in Cape Town
Nearly 1,000 police officers have been deployed to Cape Town's gang hotspots, resulting in over 700 arrests of suspected gang members in the past seven months.
According to authorities, the additional officers have made significant progress in tackling gang activity in areas such as Tafelsig, Muizenberg, Grassy Park, and Manenberg.
Community cooperation is key to keeping gang violence under control.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe reported that approximately 54,947 suspects have been arrested for possession of drugs over the same period.
The Western Cape police launched their festive season operation on October 17, 2024.
