Hong Kong Tennis Open: Last China Players Exit
China's last two representatives, Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan, lost in straight sets, while top seed Belinda Bencic continued her climb into the world top 10.
Zhang Shuai was defeated by Russia's Anna Kalinskaya with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 victory, and Wang Yafan lost to Bencic 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 16 minutes.
"I felt good on the court," Bencic said. "I tried to play aggressively, tried to play my game, and it worked out well.
Bencic's victory marks her sixth win in a row, following her win at the Japan Open. She has risen significantly in the rankings, from being "913 or something" a year ago.
