Historic Town Hall Faces Costly Restoration

Urgent repair works are underway to save Kingsbridge’s historic Town Hall and clock tower after extensive water damage.

The damage, which includes significant rot in the front wall and oriel window, has forced the Kingsbridge Feoffees to erect scaffolding on Fore Street to support the structure.

“We’re in a situation we cannot leave [the building] as it is,”
said John Donovan, Chairman of Kingsbridge Feoffees.

Repairs to the clock tower are expected to finish by 3 November, but restoration of the main building will be a longer and costlier process, with a total project cost of £120,000, half covered by grants.

Author's summary: Restoration of historic Town Hall.
