AAO 2025 Meeting Highlights
The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual scientific meeting in Orlando, Florida, showcased new technologies and ongoing research.
Researchers from Massachusetts Eye and Ear presented a study using the TriNetX network, analyzing electronic health records of over 17,000 patients with and without xanthelasma.
- The study found a 14% risk of cardiovascular events in the xanthelasma group, compared to 11.8% in the control group.
- The xanthelasma group also had a higher rate of high cholesterol or lipid disorders, at 50% compared to 38%.
The meeting highlighted the effects of GLP-1 drugs on eye health and a potential sign of cardiovascular disease.
