Local Government Reorganisation Plan for Staffordshire
Three southern Staffordshire councils have proposed a plan to create three new unitary authorities.
- Lichfield, Tamworth, and East Staffordshire: over 322,000 residents
- Cannock Chase, Stafford, and South Staffordshire: 360,000 residents
- Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Stoke-on-Trent: nearly 495,000 residents
According to the councils,
75% of 16,700 local residents consulted support a move to three smaller councils.
Officials expect the reorganisation to deliver significant cost savings, up to £22m, by reducing duplication and simplifying governance.
