The Rolex Sea-Dweller Vs. Doxa's Sub 300T: A Battle For The Burly Wristed

Henry compares two historic competitors, the Rolex Sea-Dweller and Doxa Sub 300T, to determine if they still compete at a technical level.

In the 1960s, the golden age of scuba diving and sports-watch design, Doxa and Rolex co-developed a specialized technology to allow their diving watches to endure the deep.

A consistent issue with dive watches was helium particles getting trapped inside and forcing the crystals to pop off during ascent, troubling Rolex and Doxa, who were at the forefront of dive-watch design.

The two companies developed the helium escape valve (HEV), a valve system integrated into the watch case, allowing helium particles to escape.
