British drama series Footballers’ Wives, which debuted on ITV in 2002, could be making a comeback in 2026, two decades after the show last aired.
The show originally aired on the UK commercial broadcaster for five seasons from 2002 to 2006, following a fictional Premier League football club and featuring scandalous storylines involving the club’s players and their wives.
After its launch on BBC Studios-owned BritBox in 2021, ITV added the drama to its streaming platform ITVX in 2023. The show’s reception on ITVX has driven the idea of rebooting it for today’s audience.
We’re trying to bring it back but it might be in a slightly different format.
According to actor Gary Lucy, who starred in the series, a reboot is in the works for 2026, although not necessarily with ITV.
Author’s summary: Footballers’ Wives reboot planned.
