La-Di-Da Love: Diane Keaton's First Boyfriend Remembers Their New York Romance

Actor Robert Lesser recounts meeting Diane Keaton at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City when she was 19.

While driving into Los Angeles, Lesser received a call from his wife, Annie, with sad news: Diane Keaton had passed away at 79.

She was the love of my youth... Though more than a half century back, the memories are sharp, intensely etched as only young love is.

Lesser and Keaton met in 1965 as first-year acting students at the Neighborhood Playhouse. At the time, Keaton was a newcomer to New York City, originally from Orange County, Calif., and still known as Diane Hall.
