DUI Arrests on Big Island Roadways

A total of 12 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) during the week of Oct. 6-12 on Big Island roadways.

According to the Hawai‘i Police Department, this brings the total number of DUI arrests for the year to 708, a 7.69% decrease from the 767 arrests made during the same period in 2024.

Four of the arrested drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and none were under the age of 21. The arrests were distributed across the island, with 6 in Kona, 3 in Hilo, 2 in South Kohala, and 1 in Puna.

In addition, the Hawai‘i Police Department reported a 3.25% increase in major crashes, with 794 incidents so far in 2025, compared to 769 at the same time last year.
