Proportion of Care Workers with Basic Qualifications Hits New Low
A recent report by Skills for Care reveals that the proportion of care workers in England with a basic qualification has reached a new low following government cuts to training funding.
The share of care and support workers with a level 2 qualification, equivalent to a good GCSE, fell to 38% in 2024-25, down from 41% in 2023-24.
This decline coincides with a £115m cut to planned spending on sector training in 2024-25, made by the Labour government last July.
The fall in qualified care workers is a concerning trend.
