Jurors in the trial of Persia Nelson, a Schenectady woman accused of leaving her infant down a drainage pipe, requested clarification on the top charge after beginning deliberations on Thursday morning.
Nelson is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the death of her 11-month-old daughter, Halo Branton.
According to reports, Nelson allegedly left her daughter down an 8-foot drainage pipe in a utility shed on the General Electric campus in March 2024, resulting in the baby's death from hypothermia and exposure in freezing cold water.
Deliberations began around 10 a.m.
The baby was in freezing cold water and died from hypothermia and exposure.
