WHO Adopts AI to Combat Disease Outbreaks
The World Health Organisation (WHO) is modernising its surveillance systems by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen global health security.
In collaboration with key partners, the WHO has launched version 2.0 of the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) system, used for early detection of public health threats.
- Over 110 member states use the EIOS system.
- Around 30 organisations and networks worldwide utilise the system.
The update incorporates new data sources and improved functionalities, including the use of AI.
Hosted at the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin, EIOS is the leading initiative for open-source intelligence in public health decision-making.
