KZN Special Needs School Wins Top National Teachers Award
An Empangeni school has been recognized for excellence at an opportune time.
By Kubobonke Luthuli, the Thuthukani Special Needs School claimed top prizes at the National Teachers Awards, taking first place in the Excellence in Special Needs Leadership category.
"We declared this year, the year of breaking the stigma. There's such a great stigma around disability in our communities."
Principal Marthie Combrinck expressed happiness that the school's work is being recognized. The prize package will help provide much-needed WIFI connectivity.
- The school needs more classroom assistants and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate over 400 children.
- The school is grateful to the Department of Basic Education.
