Oklahoma lawmakers convened for an interim study to address the hazards posed by abandoned marijuana facilities.
The sites, left behind after a surge in marijuana cultivation, are raising concerns about safety, environmental impact, and cleanup costs.
“Some of these marijuana facilities are packing up and leaving during the night and leaving all of their mess behind to be cleaned up by whoever comes in to buy the land.”
Cynthia Roe, R-Purcell, highlighted the issue. Agencies such as the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the Department of Environmental Quality, and the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority shared their findings.
