Thirty original Bob Ross paintings will be sold at auction to help offset station licensing fees for American Public Television's Create multicast channel.
The auction, which will be held by Bonhams over the next three years, aims to alleviate the financial burden of licensing fees on stations. The paintings were created by Ross on his series The Joy of Painting.
My head started ticking away, like, 'Well, this many paintings would equal this much, and this many paintings would equal this much,'
said Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., who conceived the idea for the sale after two privately held Ross paintings were sold for around $100,000 each in August.
The sale is expected to provide a significant boost to American Public Television.
Author's summary: Bob Ross paintings will be auctioned to support APT's Create.
