The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired Severino from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for Carlos Santana before the 2023 trade deadline. At the time, Severino was a highly-regarded international prospect, signing for a $1.23 million bonus and ranked as the 21st-best international prospect in the 2022 cycle.
