'How do we make this work': Saratoga County hosts a successful 'Siege Weekend' amid federal shutdown impacts

Saratoga County's Successful "Siege Weekend" Amid Federal Shutdown

Despite the federal shutdown, Saratoga County hosted a successful "Siege Weekend" at Fort Hardy Park, relocating from Saratoga National Historical Park.

Reenactors camped out for 48 hours, demonstrating life during the American Revolution. Visitors witnessed cannon fire and historical reenactments along the Hudson River on Route 29.

"The shortest way to explain it is heat it and beat it,"

said Jim Hoffman, who was making steel chains using a hand-cranked bellows and coal fire. Hoffman started reenacting at 15, learning to play the fife before buying his first gun at 19.
