President Dallin H. Oaks: A Life of Faith and Ministry

President Dallin H. Oaks has served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for over 40 years. His life took a significant turn when he received a call to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while working at a Chicago law firm and raising a young family.

As his stake president asked him to serve a stake mission and as a counselor in the stake mission presidency, requiring 40 hours of monthly proselyting, Oaks' faith was tested. According to his biography, "In the Hands of the Lord," by Richard E. Turley, Oaks recalled:

"I could not see how I could accept this calling and still keep up with my law practice,"
"Yet I could not say no to a calling that I knew to be from the Lord. Gathering all my faith, I accepted the call."

Within weeks, he recognized the blessings that come from serving the Lord, stating:

"the unusual — even miraculous — blessings that come to those who serve the Lord."

Author's summary: President Dallin H. Oaks' life is a testament to faith and ministry.
