North Bay Proposes Landfill Fee Increases
North Bay residents may soon face higher waste management fees at the Merrick Landfill as the City aims to balance rising operational costs and encourage recycling.
The imposed fee or charge is also to encourage recycling and to maximize the life of the landfill.
According to Senior Environment and Facilities Engineer Karin Pratte, the proposed changes include increases to landfill tipping fees and mattress recycling fees starting early next year.
- Landfill tipping fees would rise from $115 to $120 per metric tonne on Jan. 1, and to $125 per tonne in 2027.
- Mattress disposal fees would increase from $25 per item to $30 in 2026, and to $35 in 2027.
City staff say these changes are necessary to keep up with inflation and maintain the City’s waste diversion programs.
