PM Cancels Union Meeting Over National Strike Threat
The Prime Minister cancelled a follow-up meeting on the public sector salary review after a union leader threatened a national strike.
Philip Davis KC stated he will "speak directly to the Bahamian people" amid concerns that unions are not negotiating in good faith.
Unless their pay demands were met, a national strike was threatened by Belinda Wilson, Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT) president.
The union demands salary increments for junior staff to be retroactive to September 2024, while the current plan is to make them retroactive to September 2025, effective in December 2025.
