Windows 10, installed on over a third of all PCs worldwide, will cease to be supported by Microsoft on October 14.
Organizations and individual consumers in Australia and globally rely on PCs running Windows 10. However, Microsoft will stop supporting the operating system as it reaches its end of life on October 14.
This means security updates for the 34.3% of machines running Windows 10 will cease, leaving new vulnerabilities unpatched, a potential security issue for machines that cannot be upgraded to Windows 11.
“End of support is not the end of the world, but it is the end of free safety nets. Attackers know that, which is why unpatched Windows and driver bugs become long-lived entry points,”
said Luis Corrons, a cybersecurity expert at Avast. He also noted that it is an opportunity for scammers.
