The World Health Organization's (WHO) latest report highlights alarming trends in antimicrobial resistance, emphasizing urgent global challenges and the need for improved surveillance and treatment.
The Global Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance 2025 is the most extensive report from the WHO Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS), with 127 countries and 3 territories participating as of 2024.
Antimicrobial resistance is the result of germs being able to outlast the treatments meant to eradicate them and is now one of the world’s “most urgent public health problems,” according to the CDC.
The GLASS initiative aims to support countries in monitoring antimicrobial resistance, strengthening belief in treatment effectiveness, and promoting global health.
