Despite the storm moving away from the Cape Fear region, Wrightsville Beach still bears the marks of its presence, with 3 to 6 feet escarpments and sand cliffs remaining.
According to Ocean Rescue Director Sam Profitt, it is currently not safe for visitors to enter the water.
“It’s still pretty dangerous out there,”Profitt said, citing
“an increased swell coming in, it’s very strong onshore with heavy rip current activity.”
The weekend's storms led to the closure of several access points. Town officials plan to reopen them later in the week after crews have smoothed over the escarpments and constructed ramps to the water.
Profitt also warned against digging into the escarpments, stating
“Very important, don’t be digging into the escarpment because it can collapse and bury somebody.”
