A woman and a child drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek this afternoon, 10 November, according to police.
A witness reported that two individuals were swept away near Allan Street around 3:45 pm after falling into the water.
Police believe the woman attempted to help the child but also got into trouble in the water.
Emergency responders found the unconscious pair during a search operation, pulled them from the creek, and began CPR.
They were unable to be revived and declared dead at the scene.
The identities of the woman and child remain unknown at this time. Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
