A woman and a child tragically drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek this afternoon near Allan Street at around 3:45 pm.
A witness reported that both individuals were swept away in the waterway. It is believed that the woman entered the creek to assist the child but then both encountered difficulties.
Police conducted a search and found the unconscious pair. Emergency responders pulled them from the water and performed CPR, but they could not be revived and were declared deceased at the scene.
The identities of the woman and child have not yet been confirmed. Authorities will prepare a report for the coroner.
