Canada’s Rachel Homan secured her 20th Grand Slam of Curling title by defeating Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 in the final of the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe on Sunday.
This victory marks the third straight Grand Slam women’s final contested by the top two teams in the world rankings, with Homan’s team winning all three encounters.
Homan, along with third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, and lead Sarah Wilkes, finished the tournament with a flawless 7-0 record, earning $42,000 in prize money.
"Yeah, it's an unbelievable feeling, especially winning a game that was a battle out there for both teams. It's just really fun to play such an amazing team, and being able to pull out the win is an awesome feeling." — Rachel Homan
Switzerland’s team of Tirinzoni, fourth Alina Pätz, second Carole Howald, and lead Selina Witschonke suffered their only loss of the week in this final, receiving $34,000.
During this season, Tirinzoni’s squad holds an 18-3 Grand Slam record, with all three defeats handed by Homan in finals.
The Swiss team started with the hammer and was hoping to avoid a repeat of their loss at last month’s CO-OP Tour Challenge, where a first-end hit and rollout led to Homan’s team stealing four points.
Rachel Homan’s team continues to dominate women's curling with a perfect tournament run, extending their Grand Slam record and asserting their top position worldwide.
