Lucy Liu was honoured with the prestigious Réalta Award at the Belfast Film Festival for her latest film, Rosemead. The award recognises actors and filmmakers who use their art to promote meaningful causes. Liu's film, which highlights mental health and family dynamics, fits this mission perfectly.
At the festival in Northern Ireland’s capital, Liu expressed admiration for the locals, describing them as “warm and welcoming.” She mentioned enjoying traditional foods such as soda bread and potato bread during her stay, though she opted out of trying black pudding.
“It’s just an honour to be here and to celebrate all of the art and the culture the festival has brought to the community,” Liu told BBC News NI.
In 2023, Liu spent a month in Northern Ireland filming the action comedy Old Guy, where she had “a great working experience” and formed “really lovely friends.”
Rosemead had its Irish premiere at the festival. The film tells the story of a terminally ill mother and her teenage son living with schizophrenia. Besides starring, Liu also produced the film, a role that strengthened her bond with the storytelling process.
Lucy Liu’s recognition at the Belfast Film Festival underscores her commitment to meaningful cinema that addresses mental health and family, reflecting both artistic excellence and social impact.
