Photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath have been published for the first time among over 2,300 pages of evidence released by Idaho State Police.
This brown leather sheath played a critical role in identifying Bryan Kohberger as the murderer of four University of Idaho students. Kohberger left the sheath behind when fleeing the scene shortly after the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin on November 13, 2022.
"Forensic genetic genealogy traced DNA on the sheath left behind at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, to the 30-year-old criminology PhD student."
The recent images depict the sheath’s brown leather exterior, adorned with a USMC military seal, measuring less than 15 inches in length.
Kohberger purchased both the sheath and a matching Ka-Bar knife—believed to be the murder weapon—from Amazon in March 2022, eight months before the killings and three months before relocating from Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, to Pullman, Washington.
The knife itself has never been recovered.
The release of the sheath photos, a pivotal piece of evidence, highlights the DNA link that ultimately exposed Bryan Kohberger's involvement in the University of Idaho murders.
