Peacemaker's friends and foes should visit the library for some fitting book suggestions. Book recommendations are one of my favorite parts of being a librarian, almost like a superpower. I enjoy pairing a reader's interests with the perfect book. Since the Peacemaker season two finale aired in early October, I’ve been feeling 75% 11th Street Kids and 25% Foxy Shazam, making this a great moment to blend my passions.
If the characters from Peacemaker came into my library today seeking something to read, these fantasy, sci-fi, and horror novels would be my picks. Light spoilers for both seasons ahead.
For Chris Smith, I’d start with something intense and thrilling. Coyote Run by Lilith Saintcrow echoes early 20th-century pulp fiction with an antifascist perspective. It’s a violent dive through a dystopian future North America featuring a fierce antihero and plenty of fights. The theme of using violence to defeat oppressors fits Chris’s vow: “I made a vow to have peace. No matter how many people I have to kill to get it.”
After reading this, I’d recommend he pass Coyote Run to Vigilante. Once the chaos settles, Chris should pick up Scythe by Neal Shusterman.
“I made a vow to have peace. No matter how many people I have to kill to get it.” — Chris Smith
Scythe offers a thoughtful yet gripping exploration of mortality and morality in a future where death is controlled—a perfect next read for Peacemaker after the adrenaline rush of Coyote Run.
Author’s summary: Carefully chosen sci-fi and fantasy novels perfectly match Peacemaker characters’ fierce personalities, blending action with deep moral questions.
