Bottega Veneta has launched a new campaign by photographer Duane Michals, exploring the theme of dreams.
“Surrealism suggests an alternative profound reality. It’s discomforting, and it contradicts the mere facts of our ordinary reality.” — Duane Michals
Michals’ latest project, What Are Dreams, is a photo series and short film featuring actor Jacob Elordi. The work continues Michals’ long engagement with surrealism, a style he has explored since the 1960s.
Inspired by metaphysical artist Giorgio de Chirico and surrealist René Magritte, Michals is known for placing familiar objects in strange settings to challenge perceptions of reality.
The short film, shot in Michals’ New York home, is in black and white and includes signature props such as a convex mirror, a suspended feather, and a crystal ball.
In the film, Jacob Elordi recites a poem by Michals titled What Are Dreams, originally published in 2001 as part of Michals’ photo book Questions with Answers.
Summary: Jacob Elordi stars in Bottega Veneta’s surreal new campaign by Duane Michals, blending dreamlike imagery and poetic reflection to challenge perceptions of reality.
