The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively looking into trade possibilities for forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.
Robertson has scored two goals and accumulated four points over 10 games this season. His role has fluctuated, seeing ice time from the top line to healthy scratches in the first month. In a recent game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, he logged a season-high 17:22 minutes, starting alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann while William Nylander was injured.
Kampf, 30, was waived before the season began and has since appeared in four games with the Marlies, registering one assist. Although he carries a cap hit of $2.4 million for the upcoming season, only $1.25 million counts against Toronto’s salary cap while he plays in the AHL.
"We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson," Dreger stated on Insider Trading. "For Kampf, it’s mainly about shedding salary. Robertson is a young player who fits flexibly from bottom-six to top-six roles and the Leafs have patience with him. If traded, the Leafs would seek a return of a player with a similar age."
The Maple Leafs remain patient with Robertson and are open to trading Kampf primarily for financial reasons, aiming to secure fair value in exchanges.
