Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa shared his views on Jasprit Bumrah's performance in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Uthappa suggested that Bumrah tends to lose his usual rhythm when he becomes too eager to take wickets.
Uthappa attributed Bumrah's rare off day during India's defense of a modest total of 125 to the pacer's desperation to make an immediate impact on the game. Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa remarked that Bumrah's usual discipline wavers when he pushes too hard for wickets.
"When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward."
Uthappa emphasized that Bumrah’s moments of wayward bowling often arise from his intense urge to get early breakthroughs, which can affect his usual controlled approach.
"The pacer's occasional waywardness often stems from his eagerness to strike early."
Author's summary: Robin Uthappa believes Jasprit Bumrah’s over-enthusiasm to take early wickets occasionally disrupts his rhythm, impacting his overall bowling effectiveness.
