Almost 600 customers in the Moss Park area had their power restored Thursday at 1 p.m. after an outage that began at 8:11 a.m. Wednesday, lasting nearly 29 hours, according to Toronto Hydro.
“Power has now been restored to all customers. We sincerely thank everyone for your patience as our crews worked through these extensive and complex repairs,” Toronto Hydro stated on social media.
The outage impacted the Moss Park neighborhood, spanning from Queen Street East and Jarvis Street to Parliament Street and Front Street East.
Initially, over 1,000 customers lost power, but this number was later revised to affect almost 600 customers. Toronto Hydro counts customers by meters, which can underestimate the actual number of residents affected.
“In some cases, condos and buildings are fed by a single bulk meter. Because of this, our outage map reflects one meter as one customer, even though many residents may be impacted,” said spokesperson Brie Davis.
The outage was caused by a suspected third-party dig-in at an active construction site, unrelated to Toronto Hydro’s work.
“The work that caused the dig-in is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but resulted in damage to our infrastructure. Repairing this damage required our crews to excavate 14 feet underground in order to access the impacted area,” explained Davis.
Author’s summary: The Moss Park power outage, caused by third-party construction damage, was resolved after almost 29 hours, restoring electricity to nearly 600 customers following intensive underground repairs.
