New Mormon Apostle Gérald Caussé Leads Global Temple Expansion

Gérald Caussé, a senior leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was appointed as the church’s newest apostle on Thursday. He previously directed global financial operations and a significant temple-building initiative.

At age 62, Caussé joins the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the all-male leadership body positioned below the church president and his two counselors. Members of the Quorum help determine policy and oversee extensive church business activities. Seniority within this group determines the line of succession to the church presidency.

A native of France, Caussé spent the last decade as the church’s presiding bishop, managing finances and welfare programs. During his tenure, the church expanded humanitarian efforts and constructed numerous ornate temples worldwide, where its most sacred rites occur.

The faith, often known as the Mormon church, does not reveal or discuss its finances, but filings from its investment arm, Ensign Peak Advisors Inc., valued its portfolio at $58 billion.
