Nine News Queensland sports anchor Jonathan Uptin and Sydney news and weather presenter Amber Sherlock are among about 50 job cuts across Nine’s streaming and broadcast division.
Amber Sherlock did not appear during yesterday evening’s broadcast; Sophie Walsh replaced her as presenter. Sherlock joined the network in 2007, initially working on Today as the business reporter before moving to weekend anchor. Since 2011, she served as a news anchor and weather presenter at Nine News Sydney.
Jonathan Uptin, who had been with Nine since 1994, was also made redundant. He worked across multiple newsrooms in Sydney, Newcastle, Darwin, and Queensland. In early 2023, he became the weeknight sports presenter, replacing Wally Lewis.
"After 31 years at Nine, Jonathan Uptin has been let go."
At one point during Karl Stefanovic's prolonged contract negotiations, Uptin was considered a potential replacement for the Today show role.
These redundancies reflect substantial cuts within Nine’s broadcast and streaming sectors, affecting long-serving and prominent presenters.
Significant job cuts at Nine have led to the departure of key presenters Amber Sherlock and Jonathan Uptin, marking the end of long-standing careers at the network.
